I Missed a Day — A Meaningful Gift

I know it wasn’t ideal — but I was going through a difficult time, both physically and emotionally.
During that period, I struggled to put on tefillin right away in the morning. Still, I made sure to wear them later in the day, even if it meant stopping everything just to fulfill the mitzvah.
One day, I didn’t put them on in the morning, thinking I’d have time later. I had a short domestic flight scheduled that afternoon, and I figured I’d put them on once I arrived at my destination.
But like so many flights, there were repeated delays, one after another. Eventually, we boarded, and the plane finally took off. As we flew, I watched the sun begin to set — and I realized with a sinking heart: my tefillin were in the checked luggage under the plane.
By the time we landed and I got my bag, it was already night.
I had missed the mitzvah of tefillin that day.
My heart was heavy. After consulting with my rav, I decided to give a pair of tefillin to someone who truly needs them — a way to turn my shortcoming into a mitzvah for someone else.
